Recovery Modalities at Spine Science

After many years as a trainer and physician, I have come to understand how people are innately motivated to move, and once they get a taste of the freedom of unrestricted movement, they respond very positively. One thing that causes an abrupt halt in their initial momentum is the minor aches, pains and potential injury that can occur from training.

When I was dreaming of what Spine Science could become, I started to think about adding recovery as a service (not just to the chiropractic side, which is inherent). I didn’t want to offer recovery as a basic service, rather I wanted to implement a robust recovery approach supported by tools to help our trainers get the best results for our clients. Upon opening, Spine Science will be utilizing the most cutting edge and research-tested recovery modalities available. Here is quick overview of the recovery tools we will be utilizing at Spine Science.

NormaTec-2.jpg

NormaTec Recovery

NormaTec is a sleeve compression system that utilizes recovery-focused compression sequences adjusted and altered based on the needs of the individual. The typical person that can benefit are those training at a high level and have swelling or are feeling stiff. The leg sleeves help to compress the leg from the foot up to the hip to allow for proper drainage of fluid. The relaxing circumferential compression is extremely comfortable. The arm sleeves provide the same compression from the hand to the shoulder, which if you are someone that works with your hands, like myself, it is amazing. I would often try to get my massage therapist to do arm work for me after a long day at the office, but the NormaTec sleeves are a fantastic alternative. We have a full body set, arms, hips and legs which are Bluetooth adaptable. If you have never had a session with these I highly recommend it!

Theragun-2.jpg

Theragun

The Theragun is a percussive massage tool that allows for expedited healing by improving tissue circulation while sending a relaxation signal to help override your pain or discomfort. The 40 pulses per second is sure to get a positive response. The Theragun was designed by a chiropractor and I certainly like to support the products of great innovators while providing Spine Science clients with patented deep muscle treatment.

Marc Pro Electrical Stimulation

Electrical stimulation (aka stim) has been used for decades in many physical medicine offices. At Spine Science, we use the Marc Pro Electrical Stimulation system, which is not the typical unit. The Marc Pro allows us to target and reach deep muscle tissue, and sends electrical pulses to help the body flush waste, nourish and repair the muscles used in the sports/movements specific to each our clients. The stim process also helps override pain signals that can be altering physical ability. Having a positive effect on the input will improve the output. Just another fantastic addition to help deliver high quality recovery and muscle balance for improved output.

Continual Ice Therapy

A traditional ice pack loses its cooling potency as body heat warms the pack. Continual ice therapy pumps cool water through tubing attached to sleeves designed to fit specific body muscle groups. The water is continuously chilled by the electronic pump and recirculated to the pack avoiding the warming up that occurs with the traditional ice pack. This modality isn’t seen very often in the traditional physical therapy facility. I really like this tool for certain scenarios involving acute inflammatory response, as reducing the inflammatory cellular response speeds up the healing and recovery phase of muscles.

So there they are. These recovery tools will be available the day we open the doors to Spine Science. I am eager and excited to meet all my future patients and clients, and provide you with the best that recovery technology has to offer.
